Apex Air Source Heat Pump Survey in Wakefield

Updated: Aug 5

Heal Loss Survey Wakefield

General Property and Challenges of the Wakefield Property.

Apex have completed a survey in the Wakefield area for a customer interested in installing an air source heat pump at their property.

This property used to be an old museum that was built in the 1800s and has been recently converted into a domestic property. This property is a grade 2 listed building and was a more challenging than typical property due to the build of the house. Due to the property's grade 2 listed nature, the property has fully single-glazed windows and exceptionally high ceilings. Not only does the age and fabrication of the property cause a more significant challenge, but the property is very large and has over 30 radiators, all of which need to be sized and calculated correctly.

The Floor Plan

During our survey process one of the most important aspects for our customers and installers are the floor plans. This gives everyone a clear indication of where every room is and where key items in the house are located such as windows, boilers, and open flues etc.

The floor plans also help plan out the pipe runs and air source heat pump location.

Radiators and Heating Emitters

With the age of the property and the aesthetics of the inside and outside, we have decided to opt for underfloor heating with a mix of cast iron radiators to heat the property sufficiently. The cast iron radiators have been calculated using the correct oversize factor for the flow temperature of the air source heat pump.

What was included in the air source heat pump survey for the customer and installer?

  • 160 photos included.

  • Measurements of every individual room.

  • Measurements of every window and external door.

  • Measurements of all existing radiators.

  • There is also 15 minutes of detailed video footage of the full property.

  • Full floor plan of the property.

  • Completed heat loss calculations of the property.

  • A full 101-page PDF document of the survey and all information required for the air source heat pump installation.

  • MCS Sound Calculations.

  • MCS Performance Estimate.

  • MCS Compliance Certificate.

  • A full list of required radiators to match the air source heat pump and design temperature.

History of the Wakefield area

Wakefield is located in West Yorkshire and was originally a cathedral city, dating back to 1086. The current cathedral was rebuilt in the 1800s, and since then, Wakefield has been one of the main areas of the UK where coal mining was prevalent.
